Since 1991, the MX-5000 MK II THX ULTRA has set the performance standard for both the pro sound and home theater industries. The pro version is the undisputed reference standard for recording and film and video production studios. Just a few of the multiple dozens of pro users are:

ACTIVE BALANCED PUSH-PULL DUAL DRIVE AMPLIFIER

The MX-5000THX Mark II uses M&K's new Active Balanced Push-Pull Dual Drive Amplifier, with the new Headroom Maximizer IV, delivering a very conservative 400+ watts continuous RMS. A high-current power supply and massive oversized transformer give it tremendous reserve energy storage for dynamic headroom well over 700 watts!

PUSH-PULL DUAL DRIVER DESIGN WITH NEW SELECTABLE DEEP BASS EXTENSION

The MX-5000THX Mark II produces true deep bass, with an in-room response flat (± 2 dB) to well below 20 Hz. Its dual 12" drivers produce a maximum output that easily exceeds THX requirements. Its ability to produce such high output levels, even in large rooms, without dynamic compression down to frequencies well below 20 Hz sets the MX-5000THX Mark II apart—with a lifelike power and authority that other subwoofers cannot even approach.

The MX-5000THX Mark II now gives you an additional choice of bass response—one that is anechoically flat to below 20 Hz! This position means that in a room, the subwoofer will produce a rising bass characteristic below 30 Hz for a very powerful (thanks to the subwoofer's massive output ability) deep bass. And, of course, M&K's Push-Pull Dual Driver Configuration delivers a major improvement in bass detail and articulation by virtually eliminating even-order harmonic distortion and doubling the sound power per watt of amplifier power, for 6 dB of additional output!

NEW: THREE LOW-PASS FILTER OPTIONS: VARIABLE M&K FILTER; BYPASS; 4TH ORDER LINKWITZ-RILEY (SAME AS THX) FILTER

The MX-5000THX Mk II has switchable low pass filter choices. The first is M&K's standard variable 36 dB/octave low-pass filter, which is continuously adjustable between 50 and 125 Hz. The next option, for THX systems or Dolby Digital processors with built-in low-pass filters, lets you bypass the subwoofer's filter to use the control unit's internal filter.

The MX-5000THX Mark II has a two-position subwoofer phase (polarity) switch. It has low level (preamp) inputs only.

STATE-OF-THE-ART SUBWOOFER DRIVERS

The MX-5000THX Mark II's performance would not be possible without its ultra-linear 12" fully magnetically shielded subwoofer drivers. Used only in this M&K model, they are capable of unprecedented clarity and musical articulation at all volume levels, including the ability to deliver thunderous dynamic playback at lifelike levels. Their design benefits from Ken Kreisel's nearly 25 years of subwoofer design experience, and among many other design elements, they include an aluminum shorting ring and M&K's “asymmetrical” voice coil (for lower distortion); plus a very long-throw high-power voice coil; a complementary long-throw dual-spider suspension system; and an extremely linear motor design.

Available in a painted black oak finish, the MX-5000THX Mark II is 23.25" H x 15.5" W x 26" D. It weighs 115 lbs.
