The very first product to be approved in the THX Select program, the Sub V-1250THX gives THX Select system owners the opportunity to experience the reference-quality sound that has made M&K the choice of well over 100 professional audio, film, and video facilities. This is the subwoofer that is considered a part of the "750 THX System".

With an amplifier based on M&K's reference-standard THX Ultra powered subwoofers, this sub has the articulation, low distortion, dynamic headroom, and "quick" sound that have made M&K the standard in THX subwoofers.

The V-1250THX's conservative 150 watt RMS amplifier (which fully meets the Federal Trade Commission's mandatory Amplifier Rule for power ratings) means great output and wide dynamic range. And M&K's Headroom Maximizer IV insures maximum output and full signal dynamics to the subwoofer's full capability, while preventing amplifier clipping and audible distress. Unlike competitive subs, it allows both full RMS power and dynamic headroom to the maximum capability of the amplifier with transparent sound.

The V-1250THX is certified to worldwide UL, CSA, CE, and IEC-65 electrical safety standards.

M&K's DEEP BASS CONFIGURATION

The V-1250THX's Deep Bass sealed-box design produces deep in-room bass to below 20 Hz with excellent transient response, unlike the many subwoofers (including some non-M&K THX models) that use vented cabinets or passive radiators. Vented subs have an extremely sharp rolloff that starts well above 20 Hz, along with poor transient response, which gives them a sloppy and uncontrolled sound. The V-1250THX's sound has a power and authority these other subwoofers can never match.

SAME MAGNETICALLY SHIELDED DRIVER AS THE MX-350THX

The V-1250THX uses the same subwoofer driver as the reference THX Ultra MX-350THX. This extraordinary long-throw 12" magnetically shielded driver has a very tight and "quick" sound—plus it is capable of high output levels to well below 20 Hz. Its magnetic shielding gives you great freedom when placing the subwoofer in the room housing your home theater system.

FILTERS AND CONTROLS

The V-1250THX back panel controls are designed for THX and non-THX Dolby Digital systems. They include a bass level control (switchable for THX and non-THX), and a two-position subwoofer phase switch. This switch allows for easy matching of subwoofer and main speaker polarity without the introduction of phase and group delay anomalies typical of powered subwoofers with variable phase controls.

There are two low-pass filter options available—a Bypass for use with THX and Dolby Digital components with built in low-pass filters, and a fixed 80 Hz 24 dB/octave (Linkwitz-Riley) filter.

Designed to be fed from the subwoofer output of THX/ Dolby Digital components, there are no speaker level inputs. For components with no subwoofer output, M&K offers the RM-2 High to Low Level converter.

The V-1250THX's wide dynamic range and excellent transient response make it an ideal high-performance subwoofer to serve as the powerful foundation of any home theatre.

Its dimensions are 18" H x 15 1/4" W x 23" D, and it weighs 44 lbs.
