BACKFIRE GRILLE-LESS CABINET DESIGN
The VX-100's unique cabinet design allows you to place the subwoofer for maximum loading to the listening room, which gives the flattest frequency response and the greatest output. Extensive M&K research into real-life subwoofer performance in studios and listening rooms has led to the BackFire design, which provides pressure loading of the subwoofer driver simultaneously to the floor, wall and/or corner.
Its 8" driver fires down and out the back of the cabinet, meaning that no grillecloth is needed, giving the VX-100 a beautiful and unobtrusive look — the closest thing to an invisible subwoofer.
BRAND-NEW LONG-THROW LOW-DISTORTION
MAGNETICALLY SHIELDED SUBWOOFER DRIVER
To handle the full output of the VX-100's conservatively-rated 100 watt amplifier, M&K designed a brand-new 8" long-throw ultra low-distortion subwoofer driver, the industry's most advanced. This driver is magnetically shielded, allowing great freedom in locating the VX-100, including behind projection television sets.
100 WATT AMPLIFIER WITH OUR BEST HEADROOM MAXIMIZER
The VX-100's Deep Bass design easily outperforms other small "sub" woofers, especially ones using passive radiators or ports. These woofers have extremely sharp rolloffs below 40 to 50 Hz (at a very steep 24 dB/octave!), and also cannot deliver the same transient response and dynamic output as the VX-100. The VX-100's in-room response is flat to below 20 Hz, producing deep bass you can both feel and hear. Its stable, well balanced platform will not move across the floor like other small subs.
Its brand-new internal amplifier delivers a conservative 100 watts RMS, using M&K's new ACTIVE HEADROOM MAXIMIZER V (used in the reference MX-350THX and MX-5000THX Mk II subs) to prevent amplifier clipping and audible distress while insuring maximum output and maximum steady-state and transient headroom. Beware of the fantasy power ratings of many other compact "sub" woofers that don't meet the FTC's new mandatory amplifier standards. M&K's honest, conservative ratings meet FTC requirements and stringent worldwide safety standards (UL, IEC-65, CSA, CE)—so you get all the performance you pay for.
FULL COMPLEMENT OF FILTERS & CONTROLS
For optimal performance with Dolby Digital and THX processors, the VX-100 has a low-pass filter Bypass option. For other systems, you can optimize the subwoofer's blend with any main speaker by using M&K's adjustable Filter control. This lets you set the sub's upper rolloff anywhere between 50 and 125 Hz (the filter reaches a maximum slope of 36 dB/octave). A two-position phase switch matches subwoofer and main speaker polarity easily, and does it without the muddying sonic degradation of variable phase controls. Low-level inputs are provided, allowing the VX-100 to be driven from processors with subwoofer outputs, as well as from any component with preamp outputs.
Available in M&K's highly-attractive Gloss Lacquer Bead finish in either black or white, the VX-100 cabinet dimensions are 12" by 14.5" by 11". The subwoofer weighs 26 lbs., and its shipping weight is 32 lbs.
