TX-SR601 Gets Power Boost, Expanded Processing, and Powered Zone 2
The 6.1-Channel TX-SR601 A/V receiver, featuring 6x85 Watts of power, a flexible suite of dual source/dual zone capabilities and connections, and adding DTS 96/24 to its full suite of 5.1- and 6.1-channel processing. The model replaces the TX-SR600, Onkyo's best-selling A/V receiver, and is available in classic black brushed aluminum at a suggested retail price of just $500.
The TX-SR601 also includes Onkyo's Powered Zone 2 capability, which can be used to power stereo speakers in a second room as well as the main zone thanks to a dedicated set of zone 2 L/R speaker terminals. The receiver is capable of processing separate stereo sources simultaneously for each zone, or sending the same signal to both. There is also a zone 2 pre-out that can be used in conjunction with an external amplifier.
For audio reproduction, the TX-SR601 features an advanced 32-bit dual DSP circuit for digital processing, and high quality Linear PCM 192 kHz/24-bit DACs for the critical front L/R channels. Onkyo's exclusive VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuit) is used for superior D/A conversion, generating a smoother analog output with is virtually free of pulse noise.
The TX-SR601 boasts a frequency response range of 10 Hz – 100 kHz, thanks to Onkyo's Wide Range Amplifier Technology (WRAT). The six internal power amplifier channels deliver a continuous power output of 85 Watts per channel into 8-Ohm loads, and 110 Watts into 6 Ohms. The inclusion of a new, more massive High Current Power Supply (HCPS) transformer, combined with high-capacity filter capacitors, gives the receiver tremendous current reserves for audio transients and instantaneous power on demand.
The Onkyo TX-SR601 includes inputs for five A/V sources and two audio-only sources, with a total of four digital inputs, and even a digital output. One A/V input, including optical digital jack, is located on the front panel for easy connection of A/V or audio devices such as a camcorder or portable mp3 player. There are five Composite and S-Video inputs and three Composite and S-Video outputs, as well as two assignable component video inputs and one Component video out for connection to any display or television. Composite to S-Video conversion eliminates the need for redundant output connections, and the component video switching features a 50 MHz bandwidth to eliminate degradation of HDTV signals.
The receiver's high quality AM/FM tuner section has 40 random presets, and FM automatic scan tuning. The included preprogrammed/learning remote control makes system integration and control simple and convenient.
